Home Affairs Accelerates Deportation of 95 Libyans from Alleged Training Camp

White River, Mpumalanga – The Department of Home Affairs is moving swiftly to deport 95 Libyan nationals who were detained at a suspected military training camp in White River. The arrests, which occurred in July, have garnered significant public attention and prompted immediate action from the authorities.

The Libyan nationals were apprehended during a police raid on what was described as an illegal military training facility. Initially, they faced charges related to immigration violations, including providing false information on their visa applications. The individuals had claimed they were in South Africa for security guard training.

However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) recently dropped all charges against the group. NPA spokesperson Monica Nyuswa explained that a thorough review of the case revealed insufficient evidence to secure a conviction. As a result, the court has ordered the deportation of the 95 men back to Libya.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber expressed support for the court’s decision and underscored the importance of enforcing immigration laws. “We will not hesitate to act decisively to ensure that anyone who breaches immigration laws is processed through the courts and faces the consequences. Respect for the rule of law is paramount,” Schreiber stated.

The Department of Home Affairs is now focused on finalizing the deportation logistics. Officials are working closely with the court to obtain the necessary confirmations and ensure that the process is carried out efficiently and in compliance with legal procedures.

The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the security risks associated with such training camps and the need for stringent immigration controls. As the deportation process progresses, the Department of Home Affairs remains dedicated to safeguarding South Africa’s borders and upholding its immigration laws.
