Rising Tensions in Moroka Following Alleged Shooting Incident

According to reports, the young man, identified as Lusanda Ngxongo, was allegedly shot twice by a shop owner following a dispute that began when Ngxongo accidentally spilled a cold drink in the store. The altercation quickly escalated, resulting in Ngxongo sustaining critical injuries. He was rushed to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove the bullets from his stomach.

Operation Dudula, a local activist group, has been particularly vocal, criticizing the police’s handling of the case and demanding immediate action. Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and that an attempted murder docket has been opened. “The injured person was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition. Police have since opened an attempted murder docket,” Kweza stated.

Despite the calls for a shutdown, many long-standing residents of Moroka have expressed strong opposition to Operation Dudula’s plans. They argue that such actions could lead to further violence and disrupt the essential services provided by these businesses. Residents have highlighted the positive contributions of the Pakistani shop owners, emphasizing their role in supporting the community.
