A South Korean man is said to have confessed to killing his girlfriend and covered her body in cement for 16 years before she was found during maintenance work. According to the media, the body was discovered Friday, and the man was arrested Saturday. The woman’s family had reported her missing years ago.

The man, aged in his fifties, had made the confession saying that he committed murder after a fight at his apartment in Geoje with the woman. He further dispatched her body by burying it under a layer of bricks and cement on his balcony.

During drilling last month, a maintenance man chanced upon the suitcase, one of several suitcases suspected to contain the woman’s remains. Through an analysis of the fingerprints from the nearly well-preserved body by the cement, an autopsy was performed and the deceased was found to have died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Mr. A, whose name is not known yet, was apprehended shortly after the discovery of the body. He said he had been living with the woman for five years before the fatal encounter which took place in October 2008. He then hid the body with meticulous care, and he remained in the apartment for eight years until his arrest for drug charges in 2016.

Ever since the landlord had kept the apartment unoccupied and was using it as a kind of warehouse. The family had submitted a missing complaint for the woman three years after she had died, assuming that she had broken up with Mr. A and moved out of town.
