Authorities are currently investigating the case after an American student, Brooke Cheuvront, was found dead following her disappearance while hiking alone on South Africa’s famous Table Mountain. The sad news shocked many members of the hiking community round on Sunday in a mountainous area, near Devil’s Peak. Many have been left dazed by the news in the fraternity of hikers.
Hiking alone on South Africa’s Table Mountain, the body of an American woman was found on that mountain which is famous worldwide. She has been identified as Brook Cheuvront 20 years of age and a student from North Carolina. Her tracking app stopped updating on her device; she went missing on Saturday. Her body was found on Sunday in a mountainous area, near Devil’s Peak.
Many have been left dazed by the news in the fraternity of hikers. Cheuvront had taken an internship in Cape Town; she was making her solo hike in Table Mountain, a famous tourist site with breathtaking views. When she didn’t return, friends notified the authorities.
After a thorough search of the mountains’ wilderness area with a group of rangers, a rescue team, and even a helicopter, the body was located on Sunday.
As of now no cause of death has been reported yet, but officials are too indicating that an autopsy has already been performed on her.The official governing body that runs Table Mountain released an official apology to Cheuvront’s family and friends.
Cheuvront’s father penned a heartbreaking post on Facebook where he wrote, “God help me and us.”
The South African government denies the existence of serious crimes in Table Mountain National Park, but it has advised its visitors to exercise caution to avoid trekking alone.
